Who We Are
In 2021, SOMOS IWT joined the SOMOS family of companies, expanding access to international engineering, manufacturing, and service resources while maintaining responsive support for customers in North America.
Today, our focus is fixed-abrasive diamond wire technology for research, pilot production, and full-scale manufacturing.

Our Technology Heritage & Lineage
For more than three decades, the engineering expertise behind today’s SOMOS-IWT has played a significant role in advancing precision diamond wire slicing technology for the semiconductor, optics, advanced materials, permanent magnet, and electronics industries.
The Colorado Springs organization has evolved through several generations of companies – including Diamond Wire Technology (DWT), Diamond Materials Technology (DMT), Innov Wire Technology (IWT), and today SOMOS-IWT – while continuing to develop, manufacture, support, and modernize some of the industry’s most advanced diamond wire saws and slicing systems.
In 2021, SOMOS Group acquired the Innov Wire Technology (IWT) business and assets and established SOMOS-IWT, continuing this engineering heritage from the same Colorado Springs operation. The company continues to provide new equipment, application development, spare parts, machine upgrades, modernization, and technical support for customers throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. The asset transfer from Innov Wire Technology to SOMOS-IWT occurred in October 2021 as part of the acquisition.
Today, SOMOS-IWT proudly carries forward the technology, engineering knowledge, customer support, and innovation established through the DWT, DMT, IWT, and SOMOS organizations while continuing to develop the next generation of precision diamond wire manufacturing systems.
Our History
The Colorado Springs organization behind SOMOS IWT has evolved through several company names while maintaining a continuous focus on diamond wire technology, precision slicing equipment, engineering, contract cutting, and customer support.
Technology Heritage & Lineage
Diamond Wire Technology (DWT) — 1980s–2009
Founded in Colorado Springs, Diamond Wire Technology pioneered advanced diamond wire saw technology and established a global reputation for precision slicing solutions serving the semiconductor, optics, electronics, and advanced-materials industries.
Diamond Materials Technology (DMT) — 2009–2017
Following its acquisition by Meyer Burger, the Colorado Springs operation continued developing and manufacturing advanced diamond wire and fixed-abrasive slicing systems under the Diamond Materials Technology name.
Innov Wire Technology (IWT) — 2017–2021
Innov Wire Technology continued the Colorado Springs engineering tradition by designing, supporting, and modernizing precision diamond wire saws while preserving decades of technical expertise and customer relationships.
SOMOS IWT — 2021–Present
In 2021, the SOMOS Group acquired the business assets of Innov Wire Technology and established SOMOS IWT to continue this Colorado Springs engineering heritage. Today, SOMOS IWT designs, manufactures, services, modernizes, and supports advanced diamond wire slicing systems, while also providing contract cutting and application-development services for customers worldwide. We continue the engineering heritage of DWT, DMT, and IWT.
